Sallisaw Historical Mural

A variety of Sallisaw community members came together to create a historical mural on the walls of a Cherokee Ave building between 1993-1999. The GFWC-Onawa Study Club commissioned this mural and allowed any local artist to add an individual vignette to this series of familiar Sallisaw scenes. Local artists painted familiar pieces of Sallisaw history like Cherokee leader and silversmith Sequoyah, a baptism at Sallisaw Creek and old downtown Sallisaw. This historical mural also includes recognizable elements of Sallisaw like the former Missouri Pacific Railroad station, which currently stands as the Stanley Tubbs Memorial Library, and the Shadow Creek Golf Course. Look closely and see if you can spot the Hines Round Barn or a representation of the Sallisaw stomp grounds painted within this mural.
