Ouachita National Forest

Add to plan Remove from plan

This recreation area, covering portions of LeFlore and McCurtain counties in southeast Oklahoma, offers more than 352,000 acres of scenic vistas, hiking trails, mountain biking trails, hang gliding opportunities, an equestrian camp, horseback riding trails, hunting and fishing opportunities. Four public campgrounds provide opportunities for a range of campers, from the biggest RVs to a two man tent. Historic sites found along the Talimena Scenic Drive include Horsethief Springs and the Old Military Road. Many miles of unpaved forest roads also provide dirt bike and four-wheel drive enthusiasts the opportunity to enjoy some of Oklahoma's most scenic and rugged terrain.

**NOTE** Ouachita National Forest Motorized Routes have been implemented for off-road vehicles. Downloadable maps are available online or can be picked up at the local Forest Service office. The Forest Service office is located three miles south of the park on Highway 271 and is open 8am to 4:30pm, Monday-Friday. Visitors will be required to stay on designated routes, so visitors are highly encouraged to have a map prior to arrival.
