Coal County is comprised of eight communities, the biggest being Coalgate, as well as Centrahoma, Clarita, Cottonwood, Lehigh, Olney, Phillips and Tupelo. The Coal County Chamber of Commerce is dedicated to bringing businesses and people into the area and making it an attractive place to visit. Coalgate began as a coal mining camp in the 1890s and has remained a vital community in Coal County ever since. There is plenty to do in the area including hunting, fishing, a visit to the Coal County Historical & Mining Museum and attending the annual Amish School Auction, Crafts & Antique Show.
