Chouteau Lock & Dam 17

The Chouteau Lock and Dam 17 was primarily constructed for commercial barge traffic along the Arkansas River and its tributaries. In addition to the dam, this area also offers three recreational areas complete with camping, picnic facilities, fishing and hunting.

Recreation areas at the Chouteau Lock and Dam 17 include Afton Landing, Tullahassee Loop and Coal Creek. Campsites are available at Afton Landing and it is free to camp at the Tullahassee Loop. Coal Creek is open for day use visitors and boating only. There is also a small visitor center and viewing area that overlooks the lock. Please note the Jean Pierre Chouteau Trail within this area is no longer maintained.
